Street Songs

Sunday, Nov 13th 2011 - 4:00pm
Arranged by: Ars Nova Copenhagen

Street songs and cries have been much celebrated by Ars Nova in recent years. With Steve Martland’s Street Songs(based on London children’s songs) for voices and marimba we introduce this season’s composer-in-residence. And with Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen’s Three Stages - a compendium of Copenhagen street cries and much else besides - we return to one of our most successful commissioned works. We also present music by two other major modern composers: Louis Andriessen’s hauntingly dense portrait of Gauguin’s grandmother, the French-Peruvian feminist Flora Tristan and we give the first performance of percussion music by Steve Reich arranged for voices by Paul Hillier.
