Our program takes its cue from Caroline Shaw’s new piece and what she has told us about it in advance -
Bernd Franke’s Luther Madrigals are a social portrait of Luther among his friends, and using their words about him -
the pieces by Byrd and Gibbons originally involved instruments, but are here performed by voices alone -
so everything has been ‘folded' in one way or another.

Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) The Cries of London I (arr. Paul Hillier)
John Taverner (1490-1545) In nomine
Orlando Gibbons  The Cries of London II (arr. Paul Hillier)
Caroline Shaw (*1982) How to fold the wind (World premiere)
William Byrd (1543-1623) Pavane and Galliard
Bernd Franke (*1959) Luther Madrigals
