Længsel efter Lys

Kaspars Putnins, conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir, is our guest for this February concert – the time of year when we yearn most keenly for the sun's return. The music is from Latvia (Einfelde, Darzins, Smite) and Finland (Saariaho) but faces south through its texts that include Aeschylos, Hölderlin, and St. Francis ('The canticle of the Sun'). Putnins writes: "the transient, fragile nature of human life and the aspiration towards ligth, both literally and figuratively – these form the code of this set of music for me."
