Passion Music

Price: 120 kr/50 kr stud (pol.plus 95 kr)
Arranged by: Ars Nova Copenhagen

Ars Nova Copenhagen's chief conductor and artistic leader, Paul Hillier, has for the Easter of 2014 gathered an exciting programme with some of the most sublime passion music written for choir.

Stabat Mater is a passion hym to Mary dating back to the 13th century. Ars Nova will perform two settings of this powerful hymn by the two Italian masters Palestrina and Scarlatti. They are major works in choral music.

Another major work is Allegri´s Miserere, originally written for the Sistine Chapel. A popular story tells (backed by family letters) of the only 14 year old Mozart during a visit in Rome hears the piece at a mass. Later the same day he writes it down from memory, thus bringing the piece to a wider public.

Ars Nova will also perform Danish music. Bernhard Lewkovitch's Lamentations inspired by catholic church music and Vagn Holmboe's Miserere from Liber Canticorum are both excellent works by two of the leading Danish composers in the 20th century.
